Sulla hoped to prevent Archelaus’ escape from the Piraeus, knowing his troops would surely join up with the remaining Pontic forces elsewhere in Greece. This scenario picks up from a point where the Romans have already breached the walls protecting the Piraeus and are trying to prevent Archelaus’ troops boarding the Pontic ships in the harbour and sailing away.
