Playing Memoir '44 with two people is pretty fun. When you play with EIGHT it goes to 11!
Each side has a General that controls one of three sections of the battlefield, and behind the lines at HQ: The Overlord that is sending orders to those Generals. Then they execute those orders and hope it works the way it is supposed to. War is hell. Sometimes things don't go your way.

A fun and unique way to experience a game. Play is pretty snappy and exciting and easy to learn. This is a wargame for anyone.

The Landings at Cape Torokina on November 1, 1943 were the beginning of the Bougainville campaign in the Solomon Islands. Most of the U.S. Marines faced limited enemy fire and pushed inland slowly through dense jungle and a knee-deep swamp. However, the landings on Puruata Island, a small spit of land in the bay, and the southern beaches around Cape Torokina were a hot spot of enemy resistance. Although the Japanese forces were limited in this area, their defensive positions were interlocking and effective. The 1st Battalion of the 3rd Marines ran into heavy machine gun fire and shelling from Japanese 75-mm guns as they neared Cape Torokina, forcing them to engage the enemy immediately after landing. Only after fierce fighting and significant valor were the U.S. Marines able to establish a beachhead and begin landing supplies. Puruata Island was secured at about the same time, although some Japanese remained until the next day.
