This seminar is a sociological examination of the spread of Original Dungeons & Dragons game, drawing on diffusion theory. Data from different sources reveals some fascinating insights about how the game grew. Particularly how the game began with wargaming, but quickly spread through science fiction fandom and elsewhere.

Victor Raymond
Victor started playing Original D&D in 1975, after having gotten his start playing Avalon/Hill wargames such as Afrika Korps and Stalingrad. During graduate school, he rediscovered his roots with the Old School Renaissance and founded Madison Traditional Gaming in 2009. He is a co-founder of the Carl Brandon Society in 2003, and has served on the board of Tabletop Gaymers. Currently, Victor is the owner of Ancient Academy Games and the chair of The Tekumel Foundation, and is a member of the Steering Committee for the Carl Brandon Society.
