Last year it was $1-2 per ticket, and that is exactly what it is for- to discourage people from signing up for games and then not showing up. Sometimes life gets in the way and you can't make it for some reason and that is unavoidable. However, the organizers didn't want to have games sell out but then have tables be half-full because people decided they had something better to do or they didn't like the time slot or whatever. With a financial investment in the game, hopefully people will be less likely to blow off a game.
